The De-Evolution of The American Child Ep.1

Updated: Jul 26

Missing Element Sports Performance & Fitness is a training facility located on the northwest side of Houston in the Klein/Spring area. Purposefully, our owners and training staff is composed of former college and professional athletes. Most of our clientele is made up of athletes who range from the age 6-18 years old. As career trainers, we have the privilege of interacting with the youth and witnessing their athletic I.Q.'s evolution, and/or regression over time.

As trainers, we consistently engage in conversations concerning a wide variety of topics, and here's what we've noticed. KIDS LACK THE BASIC UNDERSTANDING OF THE SPORTS THEY PARTICIPATE IN!!! This statement is highly alarming to us as coaches/trainers because:

  1. Parents and fans place high expectations on us to develop their young athletes in a short period of time.

  2. The communication between coach/trainer and the athlete is non-exist because the athlete has no reference to coaching points.

  3. Parents invest their hard earned money in their children, so that one day the athlete may have a chance to earn a scholarship or even become a professional athlete (The Dream).

  4. The children who do not possess an I.Q. or an understanding of the sports/activities they are involved in get overlooked, develop low self-confidence, and battle with depression.

  5. Needless to say, as athletes age, their window of opportunity gets smaller as the pressure for them to become elite rises. This mental battle takes a major toll on them although most are oblivious to, or they are under the misguided belief that "These feelings come with the journey of becoming a great athlete." THAT IS NOT TRUE!!!

Using this information, one can come to the conclusion that this is not just about developing a better athlete. Our job as parents, guardians, mentors, influencers, trainers, coaches, and teachers is to create an environment conducive to the mental and physical development of the youth. As an athletic training facility, it's our job to develop the mind of each athlete, so the body follows. Athletes, and coaches/trainers understand that time is always a variable that works against them, and PRODUCTION is the only concern when looking at the end results of their work.

As coaches/trainers, we expect high production from our athletes, therefore we are not allowed to give excuses. One big solution to a major problem for our youth through high school football athletes is to coordinate "Weekly Youth College Football Watch Events" that will be held at our facility located at 7315 Five Forks Dr., Spring, Tx 77379.
